More music that you’ve either forgotten or have never heard of that are still great
There are just too many artists, albums, and songs that I love and want to talk about. So, I made a part two.
You can read part one here.
1. Rozzi- Bad Together
So, I actually had this album in my first list, but I accidentally deleted it and forgot about it. But I’m glad I eventually remembered it. Rozzi is an amazing singer. She has many covers on YouTube that are so good, one of which is “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton. Her voice is so good, and it really shines on her album Bad Together.
Some of my favorite songs are “Never Over You”, “Bad Together”, “Joshua Tree”, “66 Days”, and “Lose Us”, which is with Scott Hoying.
2. Ron Pope- Drop in the Ocean
This is a song that I feel like lives in the back of my mind. It is SO nostalgic. It’s one that I can go years without hearing and then be able to sing along to every word. I was recently reminded of it when I heard it on The Vampire Diaries, which has so many amazing, nostalgic songs.
3. Usher- U Remind Me
This one is in honor of Usher playing the halftime show at the Super Bowl. This is one of my favorite Usher songs, and I’m a bit sad that he didn’t sing it. I actually have to confess that the only reason that I know this song is because Tori Kelly sang it on an Instagram live.
Please don’t judge me. I hadn’t been born yet when it came out. All that matters is that I know it now. And am now reminding you of it.
4. Lawrence- Don’t Lose Sight
Lawrence is an amazing brother/sister soul/pop band from NYC with six of their friends as the accompanying band. They are great musicians and singers, and it’s refreshing when you know that every song that a band releases is gonna be top notch.
“Don’t Lose Sight” is the song that introduced me to them. It’s so catchy, and it also has a great message. It’s about not losing sight of your dreams, even when the world is beating you down. And from someone who has seen this song, and band, live, it is extremely fun!
5. Taylor Swift- Peace
This song is on my list because, despite Taylor Swift being one of the most famous people ever, some of her songs are still criminally underrated. I tried to pick one that isn’t popular but isn’t a big fan favorite either. This song is so emotional and heartbreaking and just so good.
It’s basically her asking her significant other if she could ever be enough, or if the outside circumstances of her life are too much for him. You should definitely listen to this one, especially if you think that you don’t like Taylor Swift’s songs because “they’re all pop songs about ex boyfriends.” And while you’re at it, listen to all of folklore (and evermore).
6. Arlissa- Hearts Ain’t Gonna Lie
I honestly don’t know where I first heard this song, or Arlissa, for that matter, but I’ve remembered it and her since then. She has a lot of songs that are more acoustic that really showcase her amazing voice.
There are two versions of this song that I really like. The one I linked below is the original acoustic version, but there’s also a version with Jonas Blue that is more upbeat. They’re both great, it just depends on what kind of mood you’re in.
7. Maggie Rogers- Love You For A Long Time
Maggie Rogers first album, Heard It In A Past Life, is gold. I was obsessed with it. I listened to it all the time, as I do with albums that I’m obsessed with. Side note: one time, I got in a car crash, and I remember vividly the song of hers that was playing. Weird stuff.
But anyway, this is the first song that came out after that first album, and it is so good. The song is about the people in her life that she loves and will love “for a long time”, and how she thinks of them constantly throughout the day. It’s such a fun song that instantly makes me happy.
8. James Vincent McMorrow- Rising Water
So, the album that this song is on is one of the first records I ever bought, so it is very nostalgic. It’s got a different vibe that the rest of the songs on this list. It’s more electronic while somehow still being super simple. It’s a low-key, feel-good love song.
9. Trousdale- Wouldn’t Come Back
This is a song that, when I heard it, I instantly loved it. Trousdale is a female trio who shine when it comes to harmonies. They are also great songwriters, as evidenced in “Wouldn’t Come Back”. They are so good at writing songs that are meaningful while also being catchy.
This song catches your attention from the first second. The beginning harmonies just reel you in, and then the chorus keeps you coming back. It is so, so good.
10. JOHNNYSWIM- I Keep Getting Older
So, if you don’t know who JOHNNYSWIM is, you should. They’re a husband/wife duo, Amanda and Abner, who sing mostly love songs, but also songs about life.
This song is is more about life, and it’s tragic. It’s about how slowly over time, your dreams become smaller, and you become a bit more subdued. You start to miss your younger, more carefree self. It’s so sad, and Amanda’s voice really conveys the sadness and frustration this brings. You should definitely listen to this one, but if you’re in the mood for a happier song, check out some of JOHNNYSWIM’s other songs like “Take the World”, “Home”, “First Time”, and “Touching Heaven”.
